Beautiful design and proportions with excellent comfort once broken in, but significant initial fitting difficulties with the pass-through area requiring stretching and 20 minutes to don. After modifications, they become very wearable and versatile boots that provide an emotional connection through their craftsmanship.
Pros
- Beautiful design and proportions - arguably the best engineer boot aesthetics available
- Extremely comfortable once on, with minimal heel slip despite lack of lacing
- Versatile appearance - look like dress boots when covered by pant legs
- No heel slip or rubbing despite laceless construction
- Feels flexible and free compared to laced boots
- Dark cherry shiny horse hide is visually striking
Cons
- Severe pass-through fitting issue requiring 20 minutes to put on initially
- Stiff break-in period with high initial difficulty getting foot into boot
- Pull tab at top causes calf chafing if socks slip down (one boot worse than the other)
- Requires DIY stretching of pass-through area to become wearable
- Very expensive for non-bespoke sizing that may not fit out of box
- Horse hide stiffness requires extended break-in compared to Chrome Excel alternative
